Send us your impressions or models and we will digitise them using our highly accurate 3D scanning
system, and return the data to you on a disc complete with viewing software. Your digital models will never break or deteriorate, and can be combined with your patients database to give fast and easy access saving on time and storage costs. Should you, at any time, need a physical set of models, we can 3D print them from your digital scan record.
It is now understood that in the long term, storage of study models will be done in a digital format. Digital capture will fully replace the need for either working or study models. The accuracy of the interpretation of scanned data in comparison to traditional study models has been proven and supported in many studies. ArchformByte identified a range of sample cases and scanned them.
These were then PAR scored using both traditional methods and digitally. ArchformByte found very little difference in the scoring that could not be attributed to normal human error, in fact these results have been proven in many studies including those by O. H. Malik , M. Abdi-Oskouei and N. A. Mandall and a study by Daron R. Stevens,Carlos Flores-Mir, Brian Nebbe, Donald W. Raboud,Giseon Heo and Paul W. Major.
The conclusion of the second study cited, stated that:-
No measurement associated with Bolton analysis or PAR index made on plaster vs digital models showed a clinically significant difference.
Digital models are a clinically acceptable replacement for plaster casts for the routine measurements made in most orthodontic practices.
Because the PAR analysis and its constituent measurements are not significantly different, clinically between plaster and e-model media, and preliminary results gave no indication that digital models would cause an orthodontist to make a different diagnosis of malocclusion than with plaster models, digital models are not a compromised choice for treatment planning and diagnosis.
To validate the accuracy of the 3D printing of scanned models ArchformByte compared the par scoring of the 3D printed model with the original cast model again with no discernible differences. To corroborate the accuracy of the process a range of orthodontic appliances were constructed on the original plaster cast and the 3D printed model. The appliances were then interchanged to check for the accuracy of fit.
There was no discernable difference between the appliances constructed on the original plaster cast model or the 3D printed model.
ArchformByte have confirmed that the NHS will accept digital study models as outlined in the Orthodontic Monitoring and NHS DS_Report document, again a study by O. H. Malik , M. Abdi-Oskouei and N. A. Mandall stated that “The same orthodontic information can be obtained from study models and photographs of study models for the purposes of medico-legal reporting.
